An important name of British jazz, Andy Sheppard is a remarkable saxophonist with a long and remarkable career of almost four decades as a composer and collaborator of some of the great musicians of the second half of the twentieth century. The project “Costa Oeste” is the result of Andy Sheppard’s close relationship with Portugal, where he currently resides and expresses the saxophonist’s will to incorporate the influence of the country’s landscape and musicality in his compositional work. The lyrical tone of the compositions, based on Sheppard’s melodic expressiveness, discover in this quartet a counterpoint of contrasting and improbable elements which, according to the group’s own words, seeks a “synergy of different musical languages”.
